Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba, Cordoba

4.8
History meets beauty at Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. • The mosque is a joy, is a beautiful monument that leaves you amazed recommended 100%, but the subject of the audio guide fatal organized, not put numbers where to listen audio you feel disoriented and that can improve enough

  • The mixture of styles Christian and Muslims above all is something beautiful, not Exchange anything. If the trip and time permits it is totally recommended to climb the Minaret and appreciate a panoramic view of the city. Nearby not to accept the romero of the Gypsy, is something very typical of Andalusia.

  • A unique and beautiful cathedral. The design of the original mosque is still visible and it's lovely. The courtyard of oranges is also beautiful. Between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning, admission is free and tour groups are prohibited so it's also less crowded.
  • A very recommendable place to visit in Spain. It is very very expensive; 10€ (42zl, 303UAH) and without discount for students or third age people for example, something that could make you think to don't pay for it. In spite of that, you should enter and spend some time looking at this marvel. Also, on Sundays is possible to be in church in this cathedral.
  • Very stunning mesquita that is also a fully functioning Catholic church. The architecture inside is just beautiful. I was pretty mesmerized with the endless arches that look like candy canes. Admission is free between 8:30AM and 9:30AM Mon-Sat. However, Sunday is full priced the whole day. Also try to book a night tour if you can, I head that was pretty great!
  • Architecture was great! And the place was a very nice and cool respite from the outside heat.
  • Absolutely stunning place. It is a must visit.

Where to stay in Cordoba

To experience the heart of Cordoba's old-world charm, the famous Jewish Quarter, or Judería, offers an array of family-owned pensions and boutique hotels with close proximity to the city's main attractions and lively tapas culture. A number of newer hotels surround the local train and bus stations offering more spacious accomodations, although removed from the city's historical district. Above all, be sure to book a hotel equipped with air conditioning as Cordoba is famous for its scorching tempuratures during the late spring and summer.
