Monument Tourist Spot
A stone cross inspired by Friar Diego José de Cádiz, Cristo de los Faroles is located in Córdoba's most attractive square. The monument is protected by a small fence surrounded by lanterns, which earned it the nickname of "Christ of the Lanterns." When the lanterns are lit the shadow of the cross casts an ephemeral outline on the buildings that backdrop it. Using our custom trip planner, Cordoba attractions like Cristo de los Faroles can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Where to stay in Cordoba

To experience the heart of Cordoba's old-world charm, the famous Jewish Quarter, or Judería, offers an array of family-owned pensions and boutique hotels with close proximity to the city's main attractions and lively tapas culture. A number of newer hotels surround the local train and bus stations offering more spacious accomodations, although removed from the city's historical district. Above all, be sure to book a hotel equipped with air conditioning as Cordoba is famous for its scorching tempuratures during the late spring and summer.

  • Beautiful at dusk or in the late evening when everyone has left...during the day it loses some of its character for me.  more »
  • I went at night and found it to be quite peaceful and humbling. Best to go as a couple or group. Light a candle and reflect.  more »
  • This is rather an alley than a plaza but in the middle there is this interesting cross with a church opposite to it.  more »

  • Nice square.
  • Principal religious symbol in Cordoba.
  • Essential. Surrounded by churches. Final station of the Via Crucis. Charming square. Bullfighting reminiscences.

  • The Christ of the relief and mercy, better known as Cristo de los Faroles, work of the sculptor Juan Navarro León of 1794. set the Plaza de Capuchinos. the lanterns are 1984 and the gates of the twenties of the 20th century. At night, with its particular lighting, it is worth to see and photograph.
