Cristo de los Faroles, Cordoba

3.9
A stone cross inspired by Friar Diego José de Cádiz, Cristo de los Faroles is located in Córdoba's most attractive square. The monument is protected by a small fence surrounded by lanterns, which earned it the nickname of "Christ of the Lanterns." When the lanterns are lit the shadow of the cross casts an ephemeral outline on the buildings that backdrop it. • Curious cobbled square, with the Christ of the lanterns lit with Dim light, and curious legend that there is behind it.

  • With the summer heat, if you decide to visit the old town in the evening, at the entrance in the simple and austere Piazza dei Cappuccini, immediately struck this crucifix finely crafted, illuminated in a suggestive way from eight lanterns, from which spreads a soft light and warm. The link with the religiosity of the urban community is evidenced by the many votive candles present in front of it, as it is not uncommon to find someone praying. Even if you are not believers, foreshortens the town to dedicate a careful look (much better if nightly).

  • We talked of the Cristo de los Faroles and finally went to see it. It is small thing, as it appears in the picture. A small cobbled square and the cross in the middle. Beside a convent where teach you the patio and sell you an item.

  • Understand that this place was (and is) meant to be a place where believers could go to pray when troubled at any time of the day and especially the night including very early morning when the churches are closed. It means a lot to the local people and its not a "tourist" destination - anything but!
  • Very poor and dirty place, I did not like it
  • Nice square.
  • Principal religious symbol in Cordoba.
  • Place emblematic... in this beautiful city... where breathing spell, calm...

Where to stay in Cordoba

To experience the heart of Cordoba's old-world charm, the famous Jewish Quarter, or Judería, offers an array of family-owned pensions and boutique hotels with close proximity to the city's main attractions and lively tapas culture. A number of newer hotels surround the local train and bus stations offering more spacious accomodations, although removed from the city's historical district. Above all, be sure to book a hotel equipped with air conditioning as Cordoba is famous for its scorching tempuratures during the late spring and summer.
