Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, Cordoba

4.3
Experience the grandeur of Spanish royalty and history at Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos. Once the primary residence of the Catholic Monarchs as well as the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition, the palace centers on the famous Courtyard of the Mariscos, featuring two high towers and an impressive collection of early Roman art. Walk through the tranquil gardens and courtyards that line the Guadalquivir River or visit the Inquisition tower, where a series of Roman mosaics and a sarcophagus are displayed. Climb the two high towers for a panoramic view of the city of Córdoba and the surrounding palace gardens. • From the outside does not seem to be so beautiful but it deserves to devote at least two and a half hours to climb the tower to see all of the gardens as after getting lost in them. Tents and flowers overview visit sources.

  • Cordoba could not be understood without this place full of magic and charm. Their courtyards, its ponds, its water and its light sounds, make it a place of reference of Córdoba.

  • Not bad ... but after seeing alcazares of Seville and Granada ... the ultimate ... this in Cordoba is very little. But a visit worth anyway, because the ticket is not expensive! And you can see the gardens that are the only thing worth it!

  • A must see. The building is not elaborate, but historically significant as the place where King Fernando and Queen Isabella decided to fund Columbus's search for ocean routes, which ultimately resulted in the discovery of America. Be sure to see the room in which this was decided. Downstairs at the far end of the upper small courtyard gardens, don't miss the Royal Baths. If you take the stairs up to the tower from the walls, you will be rewarded with a great garden view as well as one into the riding school next door. Then, visit the exquisite garden complex, truly the best part of this facility. You will want to linger here. Closed Mondays. Tue-Sun opens at 8:30. Lines are not bad in September. Closes early in the hot summer. Signage only in Spanish, and limited, sadly. Toilets available in the gardens near the big open dirt yard.
  • Worth visiting but there wasn't much in there. We walked the walls and the gardens and they were nice. But there wasn't much beyond that inside the place. It's pretty cheap though and one of the 3 main attractions in cordoba.
  • It's huge, and have so many things to see, advanced ticket needed or wait in line for hours !

  • Great Museum of the Christian Kings. It is to sit for hours watching every detail of it. No doubt Cordoba has very interesting and visit beautiful places.

Where to stay in Cordoba

To experience the heart of Cordoba's old-world charm, the famous Jewish Quarter, or Judería, offers an array of family-owned pensions and boutique hotels with close proximity to the city's main attractions and lively tapas culture. A number of newer hotels surround the local train and bus stations offering more spacious accomodations, although removed from the city's historical district. Above all, be sure to book a hotel equipped with air conditioning as Cordoba is famous for its scorching tempuratures during the late spring and summer.
