  • It is located in the square of loyalty, a stone's throw from the Neptune fountain, and a few meters from the Ritz hotel. This extraordinary monument overwhelmed by the feeling of sadness that surrounds to him which contemplates it. The cry of silence that accompanies it, immune to the noise of the Paseo del Prado. It is surrounded by a fence that prevents the uncontrolled access. There are kept the ashes of captains Daoiz and Velarde, Lieutenant Ruíz and other 48 heroes errands independence war shoot on-site by the general Murat, President of the French army. It is the work of the architect Isidro González Vázquez, the inauguration took place on May 2, 1840, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the war against Napoleon. On 22 November 1985, Juan Carlos I reopened the monument, going to dedicate themselves to all the fallen by Spain settling a votive flame that perennially burns.

  • It's an Obelisk Monument to the Heroes of the Second of May. It has fence around it and appears not to have had Landscaping performed in a while. A flame fuelled by gas has been constantly burning on the front of the monument. This parallels other war memorials around the world of national symbolic importance, frequently known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
  • Just have a walk around if you visit Naval Museum or Prado Museum....
  • Just beautiful, must see
  • Quite
  • Surely one of the most forgotten Madrid monuments, although almost all locals know of its existence few have gone to see it. Quite hidden due to the trees that surround it, only you can see through the gate that it encircles it and it does not see it in full. This monument is dedicated to the heroes of the two may, subsequently, in 1985, becomes at the monument to the fallen by Spain, at that time a flame that will not turn off never settled (less at the beginning of the 90s that was cut the gas that feeds it).

A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal.
