Lake Covadonga, Cangas de Onis

Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web
Set in Spain’s oldest national park amongst mountains and green meadows lies Lake Covadonga, which is in fact two lakes. The first is Lake Enol, 1,070 m (3,510 ft) above sea level. Walk around the lake and look for free-roaming cows. Then set off to Lake Ercina, 1,108 m (3,635 ft) above sea level. Ambitious walkers can explore further from here, accessing more remote areas of the park. Refuel and rest weary legs in the cafe at this lake. Cars are not permitted to drive up to the lakes in the height of the tourist season, but a bus is available. Outside of tourist season, nervous drivers should opt for a tour bus or taxi, as the road is very winding and can get misty. • Re-fuel when you visit the area. Even if you are fond of mountain as there are enough routes to perform in a beautiful setting. Several parking areas. A restaurant in the Lake Ercina to be able to eat and another in the Lake Enol.

  • The surrounding lakes is very good, with Rocky Mountains, green fields and horses and cows grazing. Ideal for photographs. Access in high season can be tricky

  • If you're hungry, visit the small bar on the left before you reach the carpark. It is less busy than the one at the car park and served lovely food.
