Lake Covadonga, Cangas de Onis

4.7
Set in Spain’s oldest national park amongst mountains and green meadows lies Lake Covadonga, which is in fact two lakes. The first is Lake Enol, 1,070 m (3,510 ft) above sea level. Walk around the lake and look for free-roaming cows. Then set off to Lake Ercina, 1,108 m (3,635 ft) above sea level. Ambitious walkers can explore further from here, accessing more remote areas of the park. Refuel and rest weary legs in the cafe at this lake. Cars are not permitted to drive up to the lakes in the height of the tourist season, but a bus is available. Outside of tourist season, nervous drivers should opt for a tour bus or taxi, as the road is very winding and can get misty. • It is not accesiblesi not pay. You arrive with your car at a roundabout in which you are a few cones together with a friendly man who says "not of Miss traffic regulation" and if you want to reach the Lakes get walking 11 or 14 kms (as the Lord depends on what Miss) to go and many others to return. You follow your visit the basilica where you can see that the good Lord out cones to make ALSA buses, full of paganinis, your business. A SHAME!

  • The connection with nature is wonderful! It is a place with a special charm. We took the long route and the side of the oak forest transports you an incredible energy. The only thing I would say is that people must respect more the environment and leave the animals alone. But the place is unique

  • Spectacular site, must-see if you are in the area, the good but narrow road. We were lucky to see it all snow and it is spectacular

  • Nice place to connect with nature. There is a little restaurant with good traditional Asturias food at reasonable prices & service
  • Simply beautiful. Note, you cannot swim in the lakes.
  • Essential to visit it, suitable for all with roads provided for such purpose. Although the short path that joins both Lakes is quite busy, not so with the routes that depart from there. If you want to see green fields, streams and be surrounded by cows can upload to veronica refuge. If you prefer something shorter and with forest, the long circular route that connects the Lakes is the best option although it does need you pointing it better. I do not recommend to buy snacks in the bar at the Lake, very expensive and personnel people missing.

  • Lovely place, with the peaks of Europe's Fund. Must-see if you go in Asturias. Setting of maximum beauty in which, in addition to breathe fresh air, you can see how cows roam freely regardless of tourists. Houses of shepherds can be seen as hanging on the mountain. 100 x 100 recommended.

  • A wonderful spot. Cows live with you in the meadow. Although many people go up there is sense of crowd. Magnificent views. Recommended upload with sandwich and eat there. The full path can be made in an hour and a half. There are buses that go up every 15/20 minutes from the nearby villages.
