Lake Covadonga, Cangas de Onis

4.7
Set in Spain’s oldest national park amongst mountains and green meadows lies Lake Covadonga, which is in fact two lakes. The first is Lake Enol, 1,070 m (3,510 ft) above sea level. Walk around the lake and look for free-roaming cows. Then set off to Lake Ercina, 1,108 m (3,635 ft) above sea level. Ambitious walkers can explore further from here, accessing more remote areas of the park. Refuel and rest weary legs in the cafe at this lake. Cars are not permitted to drive up to the lakes in the height of the tourist season, but a bus is available. Outside of tourist season, nervous drivers should opt for a tour bus or taxi, as the road is very winding and can get misty. • We decided to hire a car to take us to the lakes. There are buses however the queues were large and we were with a 4 year old and a 1 year old baby. Only the road is breathtaking, impressive! The car ...  more »
  • You can say something that is no longer that. Only inform those who want to visit the lakes at that time, that unlike the summer, you can climb by car. There is a nice cafeteria with daily menu at Lake Ercina. We only take a coffee. There is a webcam where you can see if there is fog or not, determining up because there are too many curves and climb in vain.

  • Visited in August, during this month, visitors will be required to park in the allocated parking spaces in Cangas de Onis or closer to the Covadonga Sanctuary and take a coach from there. Once on the lakes, the views are absolutely stunning, we saw lots of cows, bulls, falcons, mountain goats and even a few vultures. Not worth visiting if it's too cloudy, I'd say.
  • Really enjoyed our day and hiking with my family. If possible, take bus from one of the parking lots or take the bus directly from Cangas de Onis.
  • Beautiful, fresh, clean, pure air, relaxing. Where you can go to disconnect
  • September time, you can’t drive with a car through the road to the lakes.
  • Beautiful place to spend the day
