Torre Tavira, Cadiz

4.5
At Torre Tavira, take in views of the city and the bay from the highest point in Cádiz. As you ascend the stairs to the terrace, view paintings and photos inspired by the city’s numerous watchtowers. In the first hall, learn the history and evolution of the camera obscura, located below the terrace. Don’t miss its projection room, where a special pinhole camera displays panoramic views of the city outside. In the second exhibition hall, informational panels describe Cádiz’s 18th- and 19th-century trading history with the Americas. • We did not know if or not longer than €6 (€5 for students, no age limit, retired etc) by visiting a tower seemed too but commented us that he had a Camera Obscura. It is an optical instrument that allows you to observe in real time all that is around the tower by a set of lenses. It seemed a success visit it since it was the first time we saw this contraption and were quite surprised. The rest of the tower only highlight the views from its top.

  • It is worth spending an hour to visit the tower and darkroom. At the top of the tower you can enjoy an indescribable view where you can immortalize a magical city as Cadiz.

  • €6: a little expensive. The darkroom is fun no more. However, the top of the tower you are entitled to the best view 360 on the old town of Cádiz. I read in another review that the view was a bit spoiled by a cell tower: this is true for the view of the Cathedral, not for the view of the city and the Bay, which to me is the prettiest.

  • Really enjoyable experience. The camera obscura was a great way to see the city from another perspective. We did it towards the end of our trip and it was nice to spot places we'd already seen and reminisce, but it could equally be a good way to get a good sense of the place to plan ahead. Spaces are limited. We had to wait an hour for the next slot in English, but it was worth it. The market is nearby if you want to pass the time whilst waiting. Also, in addition to the camera, you can also go up to the roof of the building for amazing views across the city.
  • A must see if you are in Cadiz. The guided virtual tour of the city through the "camera obscura" is well worth the visit. Also great view from the roof terrace, perfect for some nice photos of the city.
  • Go here first!! The tour with the camera oscura gives a great overview over the city and you can get an idea of where you want to go next. Also a nice view :)
  • Nice view arround Cádiz.
  • If you have to pick just one cultural visit in Cadiz... that's the one! The 360 panorama view from the rooftop is breathtaking. And the camera obscura demonstration is a delight and one of the very few in the world: for a moment you'll become the Big Brother and will be able to spy the people in the streets from the tower.
