Parque natural s'Albufera de Mallorca, Ca'n Picafort
(4/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Stroll through Parque natural s'Albufera de Mallorca, the largest wetland area in the Balearics, and you're sure to get a look at some of the 271 species of birds that call the preserve home--purple swamp-hen, black-winged stilt, and teal, to name a few. You'll also see myriad fish, reptiles, the rare Barbastelle bat, and the Psyathyrella halofila, a toadstool unique to S’Albufera. The site boasts the highest biodiversity in the Balearics due to the unique confluence of abundant rain, rich sediment, and proximity to the sea, which creates a fertile floodplain environment. Stop by the information center to learn about the wildlife and paths for walking and biking--lengths range from 15 minutes to around 3 hours. Don't forget water as the expansive park can get warm. The birding huts can also be a good place to find shade. • It's a beautiful park, but beware there is a problem is the mosquito, searching for an address of a pharmacy before visiting because you would need a good ointment or spray because I taste to stings.

  • It is easy to park and walk back a very short way to the entrance of this area. Then a straight walk of just over a kilometre to the office where you pick up your free admission permit and map showing...  more »
  • In the Office, you get a free permission to visit with a German-speaking guide. Paved paths leads to the individual Beobachtungsobsavatorien. It is very close to the animals. Camera with telephoto, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, best hat and always ample mosquito repellent - we have fled bitten after an hour because we were careless shorts. Not to be recommended for small children - quite - long UN-dispensable mosquitoes - little action! Without mosquitoes, I would have given 5 points.
