Arcos de Santa Maria, Burgos

(4.6/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Once an integral section of the massive defensive wall surrounding ancient Burgos, Arcos de Santa Maria today serves as a reminder of the city’s grand heritage. The gate’s castle-like appearance was crafted in 1553 as a grandiose entrance to the town center. Admire its medieval-style towers, which form a crown around its roof, as well as the many inset sculptures of famous historical Castilians. Explore the inside of the building to view a large mural painted on the interior, along with occasional small art or historical exhibits. • It is a must-see if you visit Burgos. Here you will find, in addition to magnificent exhibitions a small and beautiful room dedicated to "El Cid" and a unique view of the city from one of the balconies. Not to mention the impressive Vela Zanetti mural on the Foundation of Burgos.

  • Which we see now is from the years 1536 to the 1553. It was built as a triumphal arch to ingratiate himself with the King Carlos I, after the revolt of the comuneros.

  • Beautiful monument representing Burgos' rich history and the pride the city has taken in the treatment of its landmarks.
  • Impressive and well preserved Medieval arc that was the entrance of the old city. The entrance is for free. It usually hosts temporary art exhibitions.
  • Muy bonito
  • It is precious right next to the Cathedral in the Centre of town, the ascent to the tower "payment" is interesting...
