Arcos de Santa Maria, Burgos

(4.6/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Once an integral section of the massive defensive wall surrounding ancient Burgos, Arcos de Santa Maria today serves as a reminder of the city’s grand heritage. The gate’s castle-like appearance was crafted in 1553 as a grandiose entrance to the town center. Admire its medieval-style towers, which form a crown around its roof, as well as the many inset sculptures of famous historical Castilians. Explore the inside of the building to view a large mural painted on the interior, along with occasional small art or historical exhibits. • The visit to the interior of the arch is free and worthwhile! Inside it has a small museum you can climb the tower and see the city from above. Mandatory to visit it if you visit Burgos!

  • Much of the history of Burgos and Castile, enhancing this part of the city are concentrated in a single arch. If you can, and come with time, it is worth out of sight from their small viewpoint.

  • Beautiful monument representing Burgos' rich history and the pride the city has taken in the treatment of its landmarks.
  • Impressive and well preserved Medieval arc that was the entrance of the old city. The entrance is for free. It usually hosts temporary art exhibitions.
  • Muy bonito
  • It is precious right next to the Cathedral in the Centre of town, the ascent to the tower "payment" is interesting...
