White Bridge (Zubi Zuri), Bilbao

(3.4/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Stroll across the curved walkway of the unusually shaped steel White Bridge (Zubi Zuri). Designed by famous Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava and built in 1997, this white suspension bridge spans the Nervión River. A translucent brick deck lines the well-traversed pedestrian bridge, now partially covered to keep pedestrians from slipping in wet weather. Ramps makes the bridge wheelchair accessible. • The bridge is not ugly, but as everything that makes Calatrava, is a mess of construction. An insult to a city with so much history in the iron industry and a remarkable School of engineers.

  • This beautiful bridge is for pedestrians only. Use this bridge to walk across river Nervión and perhaps go to Guggenheim Museum. Great spot for taking photos. You also get great views of the river fro...  more »
  • It is a nice bridge from afar, but less practical. The obvious flaws in the design have to be covered with a rubber mat so that people will not slip. A penalty, but I still find very nice and worth a look at it when we passed through the area.

  • This restaurant was metres away from our hotel, the Conde Duque, but for some reason we did not try it until our last night in Bilbao. A bit of an error, this was the best meal we had in our 4 nights in Bilbao. First night (New Year's eve) was tapas on the Plaza Nueva, second night was restaurant Amaya which was fine, the third night was the restaurant Mandoya which was dreadful. We should have gone here sooner. The place was reasonably busy in the bar with everyone watching a home soccer match. The waiter was very helpful in explaining the dishes, the starters are generous enough to have one as a sharing platter. For mains my wife had the veal cheeks braised in red wine and I had the duck breast, both dishes were faultless and they both cam with a vegetable garnish. The waitre very helpfully suggested one of the cheaper Riojas on the wine list which went really well with the meat. And we ended up sharing a dessert, not planned, but again one dessert was plenty for two. We would definitely go back here if we visit Bilbao again, and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
  • Beautiful bridge near the Guggenheim design by Calatrava. Like a lot of his work it's seemingly impossible shape is reminiscent of a skeleton
  • Great restaurant... No food for me, only drinking.
  • Iconic pedestrian bridge close to Guggenheim
  • Great bridge with a funny story behind!!!
