Palacio de la Diputacion, Bilbao

(4.3/5 based on 120 reviews on the web)
One of the finest examples of Eclectic architecture in Spain, Palacio de la Diputacion serves as the seat of the government of Biscay's executive branch. The 1900 building oozes grandeur, constructed to reflect the bourgeoisie's economic power. Swing by to admire its stunning facade, featuring a public-ceremony balcony and the province's coat of arms, or explore inside to glimpse its ornately decorated rooms. The lavish throne room, inspired by Versailles, is home to two significant 19th-century murals by famous Basque artist José Echenagusía Errazquin. • For me, this building is one of the most beautiful in Bilbao, it is worth to get inside. The number of tourists is limited, you can visit the Palace on weekdays, excursion groups are formed every hour, tours in July and August only in the morning. The provincial Council Palace is located in the city centre next to Plaza Mojjua before main portal you can see two wonderful cast iron lantern, executed in the form of Eagles, holding in its beak a fixtures. Very stylish facade is Architectural monumentalism. rich decor can also be attributed to the neobaroque. mandatory place to visit in Bilbao.

  • It's a projected at the end of the 19TH century in an eclectic style, which is evident by the use of elements from different historical styles and building that stands out, in addition, a great concern by the composition of the façades and ornamental appearance. It consists of basement, mezzanine, two-storey, Penthouse and penthouse.

  • The inauguration of the Palacio de la Diputación took place on July 31, 1900, feast of San Ignacio, pattern of Bizkaia, and is told that it aroused great controversy by the exalted decoration of the façade. It was designed by the architect Luis Aladrén and its eclectic style, mix monumentalism, Baroque and suggestions medievalists, reflects the bourgeois mentality of trace of his power in solid and stately buildings. Its rooms are a great decorative wealth with a collection of interesting works of art.
