  • The market of la Ribera is an emblematic market of old Bilbao that now has dual-use. On the ground floor there is a collective space where you will find multiple posts for a drink ocomer some spikes or caps. It is open in a wide slot, including public holidays. At the top is the mercadp of food than the typical schedule of Bilbao markets (we were one day holidays and hence could not access): both are logically free. The building is very nice on the banks of the estuary.

  • To escape the shabby and smelly mogollon of the Aste Nagusia in Bilbao we took refuge in this market Gourmet of pintxos that surprised us. We take a good txacoli and spectacular a few barnacles and anchovies with oil toast. Very good prices.

  • Excellent to eat and drink in a friendly atmosphere, in positions with the genre at the sight, with a great pint. Recommended his visit, also to see the building.

  • It has recently been refreshed and has a lovely range of stalls. I do love the fresh fish. There is also a range of stalls where you can eat. We did not eat so cannot comment. If you like fresh food this is a worthwhile half hour wander. Will have to come back and rent an apartment so can cook some of it
  • Superb local market. Full of the best and freshest fish, meat, vegetables and fruit. Great market tapas bars. Fantastic friendly and busy atmosphere. Love it.
  • Very interesting to visit. Great place to buy groceries. Really fresh fix. Plenty of restaurants to eat pintxos
  • Great place to shop for all thing fresh, but only open in the mornings. Still worth a visit as it has some great tapas bars that stay open
  • Nice food market - great place to grab a drink and some pintxos. Very similar in style to the food markets in Florence and Lisbon.

Where to stay in Bilbao

Thanks to the Bilbao's safe and newly renovated metro system, all neighborhoods are any easy commute regardless of the city's characteristic rainy weather. The Casco Antiguo, or old quarter, is undoubtedly the heart of the city's and best place for trying the famous "pintxos" or small appetizers. Small boutique hotels and family-owned pensions provide affordable and convenient accommodation for those wishing to get to know this picturesque district. If you prefer a more tranquil experience away from the lively bar culture characteristic of the old quarter you might wish to stay in one of the many hotels that line the beautiful Nervión River leading down from the historical district to the Guggenheim museum.
