Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Bilbao
Categories: Art Museums, Museums
Housed in a building that is widely regarded as architect Frank Gehry’s masterpiece, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao contains a large collection of contemporary art. The museum is seamlessly integrated into its urban surroundings, featuring interconnecting shapes of stones, glass, and titanium on a 32,500 sq m (350,000 sq ft) site along the Nervion River in the old industrial heart of the city. While modest from street level, the building is most impressive when observed from the river, and many travelers consider simply seeing the site from this viewpoint the highlight of their visit to the city. Yet the treasures inside are the real attraction for art lovers from around the world. The museum features numerous exhibits of works by prominent Spanish and international artists. It generally hosts thematic temporary shows, though the highlight is a series of steel sculptures designed by prominent artist Richard Serra. The artistic works feared in the Guggenheim are secondary to the magnificent structure. It is a most unique artistic structure.
A place worth a visit, even if you're not very much into modern art. The building itself stands out, and is interesting to see both from the inside and the outside. The audioguides have some interesting stories and background on most of the pieces displayed. Even when going through the exhibitions rather quickly you can expect to spend an hour or two simply due to the size of the place.
Being used to the free access to museums in London, it is a little bit disappointing when you have to pay EUR 16 to get in, I think your criticism is more likely to flourish; anyway, the building is really nice and original and in that price the audio guide is included. It is a must for anyone coming to Bilbao indeed.
Excellent both from the inside and outside. Many modern art museums either have too much art or the art they do have is niche. The Guggenheim has something for everyone not to mention an excellent cafe and restaurant.

Zoooo ontzettend mooi. This is the place to go when you love modern art. And go there too if you don t like modern art cause you should judge by seeing the best!
The most iconic building of the new Bilbao. This "titanium ship" is an obligated visit. However if modern art is not your cup of tea is not worrth purchasing a ticket for the exihibitions
