Basilica of Begona, Bilbao

(4.3/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
The nickname of Basilica of Begona is "La Salve," or "salute," because the steeple was the first thing sailors on the Nervión River saw when returning from sea. The basilica is open to the public until early evening, with the exception of the siesta hours in the late afternoon. This holy place is particularly festive during the major religious festivals on the 15th of August and the 11th of October, when locals and visitors make pilgrimages and attend midnight mass. • Climb to Begoña metro elevator, visiting the basilica, stroll through the Park of Etxebarria, entering the field of Mallona to see young people train to soccer, and down the stairs to the old town, is a round plan for a morning or afternoon. Prize wines and pintxos by Unamuno, the seven streets or the Plaza Nueva.

  • The interior is impressive. A highly recommended visit for those who visit Bilbao, especially the 15 August and 11 October!

  • Basilica of the patron saint of Bilbao, it is worthwhile to visit. Its architecture is very curious and its Gothic church makes it unique. It is very quiet to visit, surrounded by homey to paying cult. The sober interior design makes it majestic. The routes to get to it make it worth your visit.
