Castillo de Colomares, Benalmadena

(4.2/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Surprisingly, builders broke ground on Castillo de Colomares in 1987 and finished in 1994. Rather than a castle of antiquity, it is an homage to Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the New World, and at 1,500 sq m (16,000 sq ft), the largest such monument. Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and Mudéjar styles combine with Christian, Jewish, and Muslim influences in the architecture. Inside, explore educational exhibits about the discovery. Take a bus or taxi from the train station, as the steep walk up can be strenuous. Make Castillo de Colomares a centerpiece of your Benalmadena vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Benalmadena family vacation planner.

  • Very unusual hidden gem - bizzare tribute to Spanish explorers of old made of brick and concrete - well worth the visit and views.  more »
  • It is a recent work (built in the late 80s) and surprised that its author Dr. Stephen begins to realize it together a few Masons to honor Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. Influences from different styles architecture such as the mudejar, Gothic, ect are but the mixture is curious and attractive, the place is quiet and relaxing to spend a couple of hours. Entry is €2, the penalty is that the main building (where they say this Chapel of St. Elizabeth of Hungary) is closed and not you can visit, according to us said the boy from the box office are restoring the interior to put a Museum and is may access the first floor (have 3), and is a true penalty, plus there are areas that are at work and can not be accessed , but if these are the area and you want to have a good time and see something different come, you liked

  • Stunning seaviews and beautiful modern castle. Mind siesta, the place is closed for a couple of hours starting from 1:30 pm.
  • The place is amazing and worth the visit. The view on the sea is great. It is not easy to find the castle due to lack of road signs. Parking is free.
  • Beautiful place. Friend of mine attended a wedding here too.
