Castillo de Colomares, Benalmadena

(4.2/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Surprisingly, builders broke ground on Castillo de Colomares in 1987 and finished in 1994. Rather than a castle of antiquity, it is an homage to Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the New World, and at 1,500 sq m (16,000 sq ft), the largest such monument. Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and Mudéjar styles combine with Christian, Jewish, and Muslim influences in the architecture. Inside, explore educational exhibits about the discovery. Take a bus or taxi from the train station, as the steep walk up can be strenuous. Make Castillo de Colomares a centerpiece of your Benalmadena vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Benalmadena family vacation planner.

  • if you are staying a bit in malaga try your best to see this one it's not an Andalusian site it's a recent one dedicated to colombus, but definitely worth a visit. You need to take a bus to Torremolin...  more »
  • Beautiful edifice, but disappointing to get there to see how small it actually is. Out in the photos look great from it and great, and when you get there, you can not even enter.

  • Stunning seaviews and beautiful modern castle. Mind siesta, the place is closed for a couple of hours starting from 1:30 pm.
  • The place is amazing and worth the visit. The view on the sea is great. It is not easy to find the castle due to lack of road signs. Parking is free.
  • Beautiful place. Friend of mine attended a wedding here too.
  • There was a beautiful view and it was a really nice place. I recommend it! ☺
  • Such a cute castle situated in a place offering great views
