Don't spend the money on this and just observe from the outside. I mean if you are into tile, go in but 12 Euro is a lot for what you get. There is neat tile work and the outsides of the buildings are...  more »

About 10-15 minutes to walk straight from the Sagrada Familia? It is near. I don't think in the old days was used as a hospital, the more decoration and colours are lovely building lot. On-site staff were impressive, just look what a waste I think.

Sagrada Familia Gaudi Street at about a 15-minute walk north. Wider patio and inside, there are some beautiful buildings around. You could watch calmly as other landmarks not crowded people. I think it's easily the best spots.

  • Fantastic place and has just gone through an amazing restoration. I was lucky to go with a friend who's a professor of art and he gave us a lot of info so I'd recommend a guided tour if you go.
  • Most of the buildings are not visitable either because they are closed or used for private events during visiting hours. In the surgery building, for example, one is only allowed in a small room with a screen that shows a slideshow of old pictures. Where available, the info panels are interesting...the property is kept very clean but the ticket is simply too expensive for what is offered.
  • Outdating place, worth visiting just for the sights. Going for the exhibition is a plus. One of the best hidden jewels of Barcelona
  • I thought I would come here to see what all the hype was about. I personally found this to be quite underwhelming, and I did see anything very, very special about it.
  • Great building with a great cafe next to it. One of the best places to grab a bite and take in the sites.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
