Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes, Barcelona
(4.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
The Gothic Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes, a residence for nuns, dates back to the 14th century. During medieval times, the city of Barcelona protected these members of the Order of Saint Clare, although little of the defenses remain today. Note the rose window on the facade of the church. In the former dormitory, you’ll find a permanent exhibition of paintings, including works by Rubens and Velázquez. Bring your camera and a map to help find the place. • Isn't one of the most visited tourist destinations of Barcelona but, maybe it's better that way: in the silence you can better appreciate what was this monastery!! It's a bit far from those that are the main sights of Barcelona, but if you have a few more days, spend a few hours to visit this monastery! A visit (with or without audioguide) costs around 3-4 €.

  • Monumental and beautiful monastery of the Poor Clares in Pedralbes, in the high part of the city, with one of the most beautiful cloisters which I visited.
