Rambla del Mar, Barcelona

4.3
#30 of 127 in Sightseeing in Barcelona
Pier / Boardwalk Tourist Spot
A tree-lined promenade through the center of the city, Rambla del Mar bumps with the rhythm of pounding feet all day long. The narrow streets of Barri Gòtic spill into the thoroughfare where Antoni Gaudí, famed Spanish architect, built a handful of buildings. The pedestrian walkway begins at Plaça de Catalunya and ends at the Christopher Columbus Monument, running 1.2 kilometers (0.75 mi) along flat terrain. The wide central walkway is filled with booths selling souvenirs, clothes, books, and even live pets. Keep your belongings close, enjoy the street performers, and stroll down one of Barcelona's most dynamic streets. • Nice sea side walk nothing special but nice on a hot day. Shopping centres close by as is why we walked this path.  more »
  • Had nice little wonder around here! Lots of shops, nice views and other attractions there which we didn't do.  more »
  • We walked here to get to the shops. Cute view of the sea and the boats. Just a nice place to feel the sea air.  more »

  • Amazing pier, it's quite easy to fall in to the water as there isn't much fences to keep you in, but it's very clean and should be seen!
  • The harmony of beauty and quiet of the Bay is wonderful!
  • Nice to walk, it will be interesting if every half hour two parts of the bridge are twisted so that the sail boats can pass.

  • Promenade that connects the Maremàgnum with Barcelona. Excellent views of the Marina and with much room for sunbathing.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
