3.6
#4 of 8 in Beaches in Barcelona
Swim and relax at Platja de la Nova Icaria, offering beach lounger and umbrella rental, lockers, and dressing rooms. An onsite lifeguard offers added security. The water has vegetation in it near the shore, but farther out it becomes crystal clear. Do be careful with children, however, as the water gets deep fast. The beach also offers assisted swimming for travelers with disabilities. Head to one of several bars and restaurants behind the beach for refreshment. • Paella went to food eaten back in Xiringuito Escribà. Barceloneta Beach include, but here the Barceloneta not crowded so the coast is off the beaten path. Many restaurants around.

  • Nova Icaria and Bogatella beaches were sandy, clean and beautiful. Not crowded in the morning, but more so as the day progressed. Some restaurants to go have lunch and use the restrooms. Some topless ...  more »
  • Nice beach with fine sand and few volleyball courts. Very clean beach and water where you can relax for many hours. Bars are selling refreshments for reasonable prices.  more »

  • For a range of central Barcelona, it is very clean, and a little less populated than its neighbor Barceloneta

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
