All roads lead to Rome and Barcelona-to City Hall. Or not you want and get here and not once. Day-nothing special. And in the evening, sometimes interesting. We were once on the 3D show. Beautiful but VERY! closely. And here on Mercè here, certainly worth a loaf about. We watched the competition of cities for the construction of the living pyramids-very impressive. Periodically pass through the square the procession of giant music (and cries). In case you want to visit such an event, I warn you-take your seat for 2:00 ...

This is not only de core of the city, but also of Catalonia. Here you find, for example, both Barcelona's and Catalonia's goverment buildings (Ajuntament and Palau de la Generalitat). Also, it is not ...  more »

It is a square. If you do not have a guide, you probably won't enjoy too much, once the history around this area is the main thing. If you are passing by, you should give a look at the buildings. It i...  more »

  • You won't be disappointed with the historical buildings. You can go into the Ayuntamiento (City Hall) at certain times. Most free walking tours in the city will bring you here. Very close to what's left of the city wall and other major attractions in the Gothic Quarter
  • Quite a few good memories come from this stop. I can tell what I have an have not done, but then I would probably go away to a holding cell somewhere. It's wild.
  • A great place. The beating heart of Gothic Barcelona that feeds the veins that are her streets. Historically the Roman forum but more recently the home of Catalan democracy that houses the office of both the government and the mayor of the city. If you want to walk in the footsteps of history this is the place.
  • A few eateries to choose from here. Seems to be cheaper than those on La Rambla etc. and a lot quieter
  • Pattiserie nearby as well as water fountain.. on edge of old town.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
