  • All roads lead to Rome and Barcelona-to City Hall. Or not you want and get here and not once. Day-nothing special. And in the evening, sometimes interesting. We were once on the 3D show. Beautiful but VERY! closely. And here on Mercè here, certainly worth a loaf about. We watched the competition of cities for the construction of the living pyramids-very impressive. Periodically pass through the square the procession of giant music (and cries). In case you want to visit such an event, I warn you-take your seat for 2:00 ...

  • An elegant municipal square and the scene of many exciting cultural events including important aspects of the festival of La Mercè in September. Check the Ajuntament to see if there is an exhibition running. They're usually free and they give you a chance to glimpse the lovely interior.
  • Beautiful area with gothic buildings. Relaxing place to visit, with plenty of food and souvenir options. Take in a cafe and people watch the square.
  • Big plaza with many food and shops around the area. It can be very easy to get lost within the area but it's always wonderful to stroll around the area.
  • A beautiful square set off by the Provincial Government building.
  • Really nice place for demonstrations to take place. It is scenic in the gothic quarter and situated both government buildings. There is a tourist centre, Costa, and a really nice Spanish cafè chain.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
