  • The Church of Bethlehem is a Baroque church located in the Rambla of Barcelona. It was the Church of the Jesuits until their expulsion from Spain in 1767, and had formed the core of a set of buildings in this order. Is built on the same site as an earlier Church of the 1553 burned in 1671. Designed by Joseph Julius and directed by Jesuit father Tort and Dídac of Lacarse, the first stone was blessed by the Bishop of Barcelona, Alfonso de Sotomayor the 1681 [1] it was built between 1680 and 1729, although their interior decoration lasted until 1855. The Church of Bethlehem hosted the Seminario Conciliar de Barcelona, then known as the seminary in Bethlehem, between the years 1878 and 1772.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
