Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.

  • We went by this landmark in a open top tour bus and later got the opportunity to view it from the rooftop of Las Arenas shopping plaza. It's rather sad looking in it's building site context. Shame.  more »
  • An area under heavy development with a stretch of grass. Really not worth going ... unless you have a dog.  more »
  • Nice little park with a variety of swings/slides/climbing frames etc for young kids. There is a library there too although we didn't visit. The little bar in the park is great and gave us a break from...  more »

  • My 3.5 year old son had a great time in the various areas. Big open space with swings, climbing activities and other fun things for toddlers to play with. 30 minutes time and your infant or toddler will be exhausted. It's also very convenient to tourist attractions so when you need your loved ones to burn off some energy bring them here!
  • It's a biggish park behind the "Arenas" commercial centre. There are action-oriented playgrounds, chairs, trees for shadows (NB: most of them are short palms, so it's very hot during a midday), drinking fountains, free public wi-fi and a dog-run in it.
  • Basically a building site with a grassy area attached. A good place to go if you have a dog, so they can chase a ball, but otherwise don't bother.
  • Very big, open space with many trees and also many facilities for children to play. It's so nice. Rate 4 because at night had seen people doing not so nice things there, but inspite of that is beautiful
  • This parc has it all! Fun to train at and dog heaven
