Parc de Montjuic, Barcelona

4.2
Get some fresh air and escape the bustle of the big city with a visit to Parc de Montjuic, a sprawling green area featuring well-maintained gardens, cultural attractions, and sports venues. Covering the slopes of a hill that overlooks the port of Barcelona, the park hosted its first events during the 1929 World’s Fair. Today, the area is home to several museums, housed inside some of the city’s finest examples of modern architecture. The top of the hill, which is 185 m (607 ft) high, was the site of several military fortifications, and a castle dated to about 1640 still stands there today. Stop by to photograph the sprawling city and relax with a leisurely stroll, or enjoy fine art and exquisite architecture at one of the museums. Long walk if you decide not to use the ropeway. Splendid view of the city and area a bit less crowded than the more central areas. The Castle at the top not recommended visit as a fortress with a view similar to that seen from the Park.

Great view, deserve to climb up to the Castle. Try to climb-descend by cable car, the route is beautiful!

The park is located on a hill in the south-west of Barcelona and is home to beautiful gardens. It offers great views over the city and can be reached either by road or cable car. Worth a short visit f...  more »

On a sunny day you will have a good view over the whole city from the cabins. It is a very modern funicular which is reflected in the ticket price. Tickets are expensive given that it's only a very short ride and you could easily walk up the hill. I don't get why it doesn't start from the bottom of the hill which would make much more sense.

Very beautiful view over the entire city. This cable railway was very modern and clean. We were sitting alone because it was empty, even though we were there in August on a sunny and warm day. Great experience and beautiful pictures. The picture from the entrance costs 10 €.

Beautiful panoramic view, the ride was very comfortable (even with 28 degrees outside). The last station is just next to the castle from where you can get even better views. Be aware of "welcome photos" - they'll take you a picture at the entrance and try to sell it at the end.

This was a very cool experience. Great views of the whole city. Make sure to go to the top and check out the castle. Very affordable to explore the whole area.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
