Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.

  • One floor is temporary exhibitions and the other two are permanent. The museum has sculpture and paintings. There are some beautiful architectural features as well and various events such as live music performance. Highly recommended.
  • A beautifully restored 18th century palace is a divine backdrop for a phenomenal collection of modern art. The contrast of controversial, inspirational, provocative, "imediate/live art" set against stunning old world architecture ... the juxtaposition enhances the experience. * I found MEAM far more moving, exciting and inspirational than the Picasso Museum. It's a hidden gem.
  • Beautiful museum, different than the usual experience.. Not crowdy. Great chance to see the work of living artists... :) 1 hour visit
  • Great experience. A bit small though. They played a song from interstellar soundtrack In the radio which I liked.
  • This is a wonderful gallery for figurative art, particularly hyperrealist paintings. If that's your thing then this is an unmissable stop in Barcelona.
