Art Museum Specialty Museum
Two floors of art await at Museu del Modernisme Barcelona, where you can find items by the likes of Antoni Gaudi, Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusinol, and Eusebi Arnau. The museum building itself remains a major example of Modernist architecture, its ground floor designed a bit like a furniture showroom. There, you'll discover the Gaudi exhibit, with several pieces from building designed by the master himself. Other displays include works by Gaudi's less known but equally talented contemporaries, including a few pieces by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Don't miss the basement, which features mosaic-covered pillars and columns displaying Modernist paintings and statues. Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.

  • Excellent small museum celebrating Barcelona's golden age of art deco and art nouveau. We got an inclusive ticket with the Barcelona card and enjoyed an intense visit of about an hour - but you could easily spend less and feel satisfied. A beautifully curated space with pieces immediately in front of you - the Gaudi furniture here looked a lot better than in the giant rooms at the National.
  • I don't know much about art but it was pretty, and you can tell others you went here :)
  • Beautiful collection of Catalan Art Nouveau. Strong French influence is evident in much of the work - and this pleased me greatly - but it also tends to possess a palpable Catalan character, which comes off as slightly exotic and new. Excellent examples of Gaudi, Casas, Claraso, and many others. Downstairs is very tranquil. Highly recommended.
  • Great little museum with some Gaudi's creations, art and a wonderful collection of old photos of Barcelona. Entrance is 10 euros.
  • I thought it was a beautiful museum with some very lovely pieces of artwork, sculptures and art decortifs pieces designed by Gaudi and other Spanish artists. It is not what you expect, I thought it would have a larger collection, because what they did have was exceptional. It is worth a Sunday trip while in Barcelona, which in most European countries is FREE MUSEUM DAY.
