Museu de la Catedral, Barcelona
(4.4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Housed within the chapterhouse of the Barcelona Cathedral, Museu de la Catedral displays religious works of art once used in official religious ceremonies. Highlights of the museum's collection include "The Pieta" by Bartolome Bermejo, a Spanish artist who employed Flemish painting techniques, and a picture of the glorification of St. Oleguer and St. Eulalia, which hangs over the vault. The Gothic chamber, once a meeting place for the cathedral chapter, also contains the St. Sever galleries, which feature exhibitions of Baroque and contemporary art. After viewing the works below the cathedral, go above ground to explore the cathedral itself. From the roof, enjoy a view of Barcelona from above. A visit to Museu de la Catedral represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Barcelona trip itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • Must see the inner yard where there is a cloister. There is a luxurious vegetation with green parrots in the palm trees and there are fish and gees swimming in a pool.
  • I walked the quiet streets of Barcelona from the Las Ramblas early Sunday morning to attend the 9AM Mass. It was well attended and held in the native tongue. The Church filled up but the velvet ropes ...  more »
  • Have been to Barcelona twice and it's was a pleasure to visit both times. Beautiful place. Close to other "must see" places in Barcelona.

  • Very beautiful. Be sure to wear "proper" clothing or they wont let in without a coverage (you can buy for 2 Euros next to the church). Make sure to check out the back entrance where you can fond a beautiful fountain inside a patio.
  • Gothic gem with a twist. Beautiful architecture and ornate artwork: gildings, paintings sculptures in wood and stone. Some of the side chapels dating from the early 15 century, astonishing courtyard with fountains, greenery and a small flock of well fed geese. These startle the worshippers and visitors alike with their sudden loud honking, bringing in a sense of humour into the somber carhedral. If you exit on the east side of the courtyard, there are some huge columns from a roman Temple Augusta (1st century) hidden in a little passage.
  • It ain't the Gothic Quarter for no reason. Nice to stroll around the area and find the impressive Barcelona Cathedral, which was a good break from all the Gaudi masterpieces. It's free! It would've been nice to see the view from the top, as mentioned by the other reviews. IG 📷: thearchitectdraws
  • Absolutely amazing. A beautiful gothic cathedral. Sometimes during sundays there are people dancing in the front of the cathedral. Go there and live a truly catalan experience
  • Nice walk in it and free. Exterior was old and impressive but no gothic building could compare with Duomo. Fat gooses were very cute.
