  • I visited on the first day of my visit to Barcelona. I only had to pay for the standard ticket, which also admitted us to the two temporary exhibitions (maybe because I went during off-season). The two staff members at reception were very friendly and helpful. Most information is translated into english. Very few weren't but this wasn't a big problem. There were quite a few interactive displays for both adults and children, which made the experience fun. The main exhibition is spread over two floors, with the prehistoric times starting on the fourth floor. I was quite surprised by how big the museum was and how detailed the information was. I spent about 1.5 hours on the top two floors and I didn't even manage to read half of the information that was on display. This is great if you're very interested in the topic but it would have been nice to have a few summaries for those people who don't want to delve into as much detail. If I wouldn't have been as tired, I would stayed a longer to read more.
  • A great experience, providing a history of Catalonia throughout the years. The exhibits on the first few floors are in Spanish only, but the top 3 floors have trilingual signage. On Sundays, parts of the museum are free to access. There is also a rooftop terrace on the top floor, along with a restaurant and bar, that overlooks the harbor.
  • Pretty cool place with lots to offer. It has also reataurants close by, for eating later.
  • Good museum, worth a visit. If you get the lift to the top floor you can get an excellent view of all the yaughts in the harbur.
  • Impressive exterior and the detail is exceptional. If time allowed we would have done a full tour but we just managed to view the building.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
