Monumento a Cristoforo Colombo, Barcelona
(3.3/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
One of Barcelona’s iconic landmarks and a favorite perch of pigeons, the 60 m (197 ft) Monumento a Cristoforo Colombo points proudly across the sea. Built in 1888 to commemorate Columbus reporting his first journey to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, the monument features a bronze statue standing atop a Corinthian column. Although many like to think that Columbus is pointing toward the New World that he was credited with discovering, the statue is, in fact, aiming his finger toward Algeria. • This large monument to Christopher Columbus is found near the coastal end of La Ramblas. You can go up to the viewing platform for a spectacular vista over the city and harbour area.
  • The statue itself has no more interest than other monuments (which is already not bad by the way). But it's the view at the top to be considered. View, therefore, of Barcelona, which is worth a visit. Children (ages 4 and 6) have enjoyed. Claustrophobic and other subjects to Vertigo, abstain! The place is particularly close. We can make pretty pictures. Know to wait sometimes for long minutes before you can go down using the small elevator (no stairs).
