Monasterio de Pedralbes, Barcelona

4.5
#13 of 72 in Museums in Barcelona
The Gothic Monasterio de Pedralbes, a residence for nuns, dates back to the 14th century. During medieval times, the city of Barcelona protected these members of the Order of Saint Clare, although little of the defenses remain today. Note the rose window on the facade of the church. In the former dormitory, you’ll find a permanent exhibition of paintings, including works by Rubens and Velázquez. Bring your camera and a map to help find the place. It is a beach that has bars and restaurants outdoors on the shore or coast. This is very useful both for those who take Sun in the sand for walkers along the promenade. This allows you to enjoy the beach quiet without noisy street vendors (as seen on the coast of argentina) and if you need some blending beautifully 20 meters to the seafront bars (and should not cross any street). Other data... There are cute dressing rooms and restrooms clean on the beach

Could not visit the inside (beware especially during holiday times) we have only from the outside which is already beautiful.

  • Beautiful place and lots of history. My favourite parts were the kitchen and the dioramas in Sala Joan Mari i Oliva. €5 adult and €3.50 reduced entry (without audio guides)
  • Nice place to go & relax. Cheap admission fee
  • Great building. So old. If you come to this part of Bcn you should go.
  • Very peaceful place, interesting exhibitions and gorgeous courtyard
  • Wonderful monastir in a beautiful and quiet environment, in unpscale neighborhood of Pedralbes. The church is not special from the inside, since the ancient frescos has been erased in the XIX century, though, but still worth a visit.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
