Mercat Santa Caterina, Barcelona

4.3
#3 of 113 in Shopping in Barcelona
Go shopping at this vibrant food market. Mercat Santa Caterina has been in operation since 1848 and is still very popular today. You can immediately recognize the market by its iconic bright wavy roof. Mingle with locals doing their weekly shopping and pick up some fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, and meat. Some Spanish olive oil makes a great souvenir. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop for a bite to eat at one of the tapas restaurants that open onto the market. • This market lacked the edge of the Las Ramblas one (and was more pricey somehow) but was informed the locals visit. Covered so great for wet weather and no beggars rogging you out. Check out the Fruit...  more »
  • This is how market progress of caballito, nothing out of the ordinary, apart from the roof which is the picturesque, another thing I saw

  • If you stay in the heart of the old town, al Born, and you have the kitchen, be sure to visit this small, fully-stocked market to buy local products. Guests can enjoy a cold cuts (a tour I'll go ahead try without problems), spices, vegetables, salt cod, bread and pastries. To take to Italy if possible!

  • This place is a find. It's a grocery store with a very good restaurant attached. Very fresh. Wide variety of meats, seafood, pasta, veggies, soups and stews. Also, a 'world' menu. We lived thanks sangria. Daily specials. Wish we had found it earlier in the week instead of the night before we leave. But better late than never!
  • Authentic local marketplace. Not as diverse as Boceria but less touristic. You find fresh fish, vegetales, fruits, meat... Great place to get inspired for your dinner. In the heart of the Born district. Dont miss it
  • It’s a smaller market with a big selection of sea produce and meat. I picked up a 1€ cone of mixed sausage slices with cheese, it was really delicious! There is also 1.5€ fresh fruit juices, recommended!
  • It looks dirty and dark. Caprabo best prices but the whole supermarket is a dirty mess. Best prices so I need to buy over there!
  • Really interesting well presented and market to explore. The restaurant attached to it does great meals at reasonable prices.
