  • Don't let the name fool you: this isn't another public market - it hasn't been since the early 1970s. What makes the Mercat del Born awesome is precisely the archaeological findings they made when the...  more »
  • I think that, given the amount of attractions that Barcelona offers, visit the Mercat del Born is expendable if you do not have much time. The market is all mounted on iron structures and so was known as "railway Cathedral", which is not to say that it is very beautiful. Formerly it was a fruit and vegetable market, but today, following the discovery of archeological remains of the medieval period during a restore, the market turned into a cultural center. These archaeological finds can be visited for a fee.

  • The visit to this site allows you to see the archaeological remains that are from the Barcelona of the 1700. Within a day of rain or a lot of heat in addition to being able to eat you can take refuge. If you go ahead please.

  • Great museum, about the impressive war history that hid these ruins of Cataluña of the late 1600's. Happy that the remodeling projects of El Born rediscovered them and turned this amazing covered marketplace in a very useful, well designed, memory/history filled FREE museum. It'll make you see Barcelona with a different eye.
  • Very interesring place. Nice and quiet after crowded streets of Barcelona. Restaurant also nice but maybe a little too expensive. But delicious thou.
  • Interesting view of old ruins, display of artifacts and regular facts. The men's bathroom only had urinals...
  • Interesting for those who are willing to dig into Catalan history: This is a former market building, and the old ruins beneath it have been uncovered. You can view them from the walkways over the ruins, and information about the ruins amongst others is displayed in Spanish, Catalan and English. There is also a restaurant (which more appears as a sports bar: you can view Barcelona here when they play!). All in all nice to spend some time.
  • Free entry!! Great museum to learn a little about Spain, Catalan and Barcelona history. Can spend 1-3 hours here if your reading everything. There is a cage inside.
