Las Ramblas, Barcelona

#11 of 1,568 in Things to do in Barcelona
The old city meets the modern in Las Ramblas, a series of pedestrian streets lined by outdoor markets, shops, cafes, and restaurants. To stroll through this bustling district is to walk through the history and culture of one of the world’s most exciting urban centers. Celebrated poet Federico García Lorca once described it as "the only street in the world which I wish would never end." Famous for its throbbing urban energy, this colorful avenue and tree-lined walkway are one of the busiest areas in the city, so it’s not surprising that it’s constantly thronged by tourists. To avoid crowds, head down some of the smaller side streets, where you can find inexpensive souvenirs, friendly locals, and live music. • Busy Place - I had fun walking along this street. You can see lots of stuff happening. If you don't like too much people, then this isn't a place for you. Food stalls, souvenir shops, and all others, you can find them all here. If you walk straight all the way through, you will get to the Columbus Monument.
  • the service was wonderful, the drinks were well prepared and presented to us perfectly! I would recommend everyone to visit Las Ramblas if they are in Barcelona. I will be visiting again in the future
  • We stayed at the Travelodge very basic but clean and friendly, great night life in the area. Good restaurants and shops plus a short walk to the beach, easy access to the metro.
  • Probably the best part of Barcelona. It's definitely best to start towards more inland and make your way out to the water. There's lots of really awesome artists and street performers to look at as you're making your way out to the pier. At the end of it all there's a wonderful shopping center on the pier itself. The best attraction in Barcelona by far including Camp Nou.
  • The most iconic street in Barcelona. Full of restaurants, market stalls and street artists. Beware of pickpocketing.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
