#595 of 1,561 in Things to do in Barcelona
Font de Canaletes is an ornate fountain, crowned by a lamp post, in Barcelona, Catalonia, in Rambla de Canaletes, the upper part of La Rambla, near Plaça de Catalunya. A late 19th century design, it replaced a fountain dating back to the 16th century, next to the Estudis Generals, a no longer existing university introduced in 1714 by Philip V of Spain after the banning and closure of the University of Barcelona. It is a fixture of football fans after Barça football matches since the 1930s.Tradition has that the one who drinks from the Font de Canaletes will come back to Barcelona, as the inscription on the floor suggests. The fountain is named after the northern wall of the city, called Canaletes because of the water pipes that went through it supplying Barcelona's old city.

  • I am so glad to see the fountains of Barcelona now listed as attractions and this by far is the best of them all. It has it all, great design with the elegant lights and ironwork, great location on La...  more »
  • The template if you walk past them then take a look at, but does not change. The destination is the famous La Rambla and easy to find. See no yes not really anything, because it is the only water tap where people wash their faces and part of having access to drinking water. Some sort of "If you drink this, you return to the always in Barcelona," the story of this is ... but I'm back Barcaan without this.

  • At the entrance of La Rambla. Popular meeting point. One of the symbol of Barcelona. You can drink fresh water. Says "If you drink from this water fountain you will come back to Barcelona.
  • The legend tells that if you drink from this water fountain, you will come back to Barcelona. It has happened to me 4 times already; so, I think it really works. This is where the culès celebrate every victory.
  • Its really good place . And I have 7 years experience in Barcelona
  • It is very noce but it is crowded. Be there 30 min before the show so will be able to see it well
  • The heart of Barcelona where people celebrate the winning of Barça.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
