La Barceloneta, Barcelona

4.0
#1 of 46 in Beaches in Catalonia
Beach Nature / Park
Spend time relaxing on the sandy expanse of La Barceloneta. This bustling beach is a favorite among tourists and locals alike, famed for its fiesta atmosphere. Build a sandcastle, dip your toes in the Mediterranean Sea, or sunbathe. If you’re feeling active, join in a game of beach volleyball or table tennis. Look for the modern art on display: the “Homenatge a la Barceloneta” monument and “Peix d’Or” sculptures. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, sample the catch of the day at one of many seafood restaurants located on the boardwalk. Put La Barceloneta on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Barcelona itinerary maker.

  • The beach is easy to get to, approx. 20 min walk from the center. Very calm and quiet in the morning but gets extremely busy and very hot in the afternoon. The beach is sandy and you have to walk down...  more »
  • Enjoyed the beach , it was a hot June day but under a umbrella there was always a cool breeze. Get the massage if the girls happen by and expect a few girls to be topless which seemed to be the norm  more »
  • My girlfriend and I came to this beach a few times. When we were there from 10am-1:30 pm the beach was not to busy. We went back a day later at 4:30pm and the beach was packed. The beach itself is kin...  more »

  • Wish I could give this one 3.5 stars. It was the second time we have been here. The food was as good as I remember but I think the place was having an off-day. Wrong items delivered to the table and the servers didn't seem to have the charm I remember. Can't go wrong with the grilled fish or paella though. Beautiful views of the yachts in the marina.
  • We went there for a celebration and had lunch in one of the private rooms from the top level. These rooms are great for big groups to have some privacy and enjoy great views to the harbour. The service is great and always making sure everyone is well attended. The food is good but slightly overpriced but I guess you are also paying for location and top quality service. Overall it was a good experience.

  • Too many people, rice no t very good, prices high, local views really good ! Food quality regular !!!

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
