Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.

  • Small, a bit dirty and no grass. Not for tourists. We found this using google keywords "swimming pool barcelona" and it appeared in a top-5 list. Not exactly what we expected!  more »
  • Fun to do with small kids is this lovely swimming pool in the gardens of a block. The atmosphere is cozy. Lifeguards monitor the place. The are toilets and shower available.  more »

  • This was a 3-star review. Then I noticed some of the local art. The vision it takes to use that font, mind-blowing. #wearenotalone
  • It´s OK, not outstanding but sure the kids can have a great deal of fun. Really well located and quite cheap. IT´s worth to go now and then...
  • Unexpected gem in central Barcelona where you can splash away a few hours with the kids or snooze in the sun while they do all the splashing. Chilled, pretty and cheap. Highly recommended.
  • It hasn't been cleaned in about 2 weeks. Took one look and turned around, same as couple of other families. No limpio por 2 semanas, mas?!
  • Quiet and refreshing place
