Art Museum
The Fundació Antoni Tàpies is a cultural center and museum, located in Carrer d'Aragó, in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), dedicated mainly to the life and works of the painter Antoni Tàpies. The Fundació was created in 1984 by the artist Antoni Tàpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. It combines the organisation of temporary exhibitions, symposia, lectures and film seasons with a range of publications to go with the activities and periodic shows of Antoni Tàpies’ work. The Fundació owns one of the most complete collections of Tàpies’ work, mostly made up of donations by Antoni and Teresa Tàpies. The Fundació opened its doors in June 1990 in the building of the former Montaner i Simon publishing house, a work of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, restored and refurbished by the architects Roser Amadó and Lluís Domènech Girbau. Constructed between 1880 and 1885, at an early stage of the evolution of Catalan Modernisme style, the building was the first in the Eixample district to integrate industrial typology, combining exposed brick and iron.TransportBarcelona Metro station Passeig de Gràcia (L2, L3, L4)

  • Go your way on this Foundation unless you have the Passport. There is no interest. Very few actual exhibited works and what is shown can be the intellectual fraud!

  • In a time-honored Publishing House at the Carrer Aragó, the Fundació Tàpies was established at the end of the last century. The young Museum struck with extraordinary exhibitions - for example Robert Motherwell - and carefully selected exhibits of the collection. This has unfortunately changed in recent years, perhaps also due by the death of Antoni of Tàpies in the year 2012. The present temporary exhibitions have suffered on their quality, and the exhibitions reach the level of familiar works by Tàpies hardly. You wish that this "ancient times" may come back. the work of by Tàpies and the beautiful House deserve it.

  • Was not a fan of the small permanent collection, but the two temporary collections were engrossing. Check to see what's on before visiting! Temporary collections are included as part of the ticket price. Worth visiting if the exhibitions are good and you happen to be in the area for the Gaudi architecture anyway!
  • Small collection by the artist. Read on the collection before you go so you can tell if it tickles your monkey .
  • After seeing the great Catalan art of the middle ages in the MNAC (not to mention the cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar), the beautiful modernist buildings in the Eixample, and the magnificent works of Picasso and Miró, you will be sorely disappointed by the mediocre (and worse-than-mediocre) work of Antoni Tàpies, an emperor whose new clothes are looking rattier with each passing year.
  • Not large, but quite good contemporary art.
  • Just for the value of Barcelona Card
