The Fundació Antoni Tàpies is a cultural center and museum, located in Carrer d'Aragó, in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), dedicated mainly to the life and works of the painter Antoni Tàpies. The Fundació was created in 1984 by the artist Antoni Tàpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. It combines the organisation of temporary exhibitions, symposia, lectures and film seasons with a range of publications to go with the activities and periodic shows of Antoni Tàpies’ work. The Fundació owns one of the most complete collections of Tàpies’ work, mostly made up of donations by Antoni and Teresa Tàpies. The Fundació opened its doors in June 1990 in the building of the former Montaner i Simon publishing house, a work of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, restored and refurbished by the architects Roser Amadó and Lluís Domènech Girbau. Constructed between 1880 and 1885, at an early stage of the evolution of Catalan Modernisme style, the building was the first in the Eixample district to integrate industrial typology, combining exposed brick and iron.TransportBarcelona Metro station Passeig de Gràcia (L2, L3, L4)

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.

  • Seen it I was 2015. Definitely worth going there. Tapies was local artist and you can have great opportunity to see it here. Good luck place if you are in Barcelona or 2nd or 3rd time.  more »
  • This was the worst museum we have ever visited in Europe and we've been to many. One of the exhibits was two floors of postcards glued to the walls. That's it! On the third floor there was an exhibit ...  more »
  • A somewhat interesting space, with the Tapies pieces being in the basement and on the second floor and a temporary exhibit on the main floor. Found the temporary exhibit somewhat meh, but liked the Ta...  more »

  • Beautiful place. Superb library (by appointment only). A bit weak on the support for those who do not understand Catalan (or Spanish). Anyway it is worth a visit.
  • Honestly not recommend. The space is small and the exhibition is not very good.
  • A very interest place for those who love "matter" in art.
  • Was not a fan of the small permanent collection, but the two temporary collections were engrossing. Check to see what's on before visiting! Temporary collections are included as part of the ticket price. Worth visiting if the exhibitions are good and you happen to be in the area for the Gaudi architecture anyway!
  • Small collection by the artist. Read on the collection before you go so you can tell if it tickles your monkey .
