The Fundació Antoni Tàpies is a cultural center and museum, located in Carrer d'Aragó, in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), dedicated mainly to the life and works of the painter Antoni Tàpies. The Fundació was created in 1984 by the artist Antoni Tàpies to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art. It combines the organisation of temporary exhibitions, symposia, lectures and film seasons with a range of publications to go with the activities and periodic shows of Antoni Tàpies’ work. The Fundació owns one of the most complete collections of Tàpies’ work, mostly made up of donations by Antoni and Teresa Tàpies. The Fundació opened its doors in June 1990 in the building of the former Montaner i Simon publishing house, a work of the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, restored and refurbished by the architects Roser Amadó and Lluís Domènech Girbau. Constructed between 1880 and 1885, at an early stage of the evolution of Catalan Modernisme style, the building was the first in the Eixample district to integrate industrial typology, combining exposed brick and iron.TransportBarcelona Metro station Passeig de Gràcia (L2, L3, L4)

  • It's always a pleasure to go to the beautiful Foundation Tapies. In the singular modernist building that already affects for the façade and spacious inside you can see the paintings or works by Tapies depending on the current exhibition, typically to a period. The ideal is to go back over time when there's a new show, to have an overview of works by Tapies, but really deserves. Better a period deepened by a reductive summary.

  • Installed in an industrial building of domènech i Montaner, the boss of the modernist school catalan, the Foundation presents some beautiful works of Tapies and interesting temporary exhibitions. The renovation of the building is very successful with the exception of a questionable outgrowth of barbed irons that clutters the front a little.

  • Antoni Tapies is a contemporary artist (died in 2012) that has a very unique Museum beginning with the famous facade with barbed wire ... within his works, some of conceptual art, others linked to the Catalan separatism ... overall interesting, worth a visit!

  • Was not a fan of the small permanent collection, but the two temporary collections were engrossing. Check to see what's on before visiting! Temporary collections are included as part of the ticket price. Worth visiting if the exhibitions are good and you happen to be in the area for the Gaudi architecture anyway!
  • Small collection by the artist. Read on the collection before you go so you can tell if it tickles your monkey .
  • After seeing the great Catalan art of the middle ages in the MNAC (not to mention the cathedral and Santa Maria del Mar), the beautiful modernist buildings in the Eixample, and the magnificent works of Picasso and Miró, you will be sorely disappointed by the mediocre (and worse-than-mediocre) work of Antoni Tàpies, an emperor whose new clothes are looking rattier with each passing year.
  • Not large, but quite good contemporary art.
  • Just for the value of Barcelona Card
