El Cafè de la Pedrera, Barcelona

4.0
To see one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s most controversial designs, visit El Cafè de la Pedrera, known for its undulating stone facade and the wrought-iron decorations on its balconies and windows. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, the building features some of the most innovative elements of its time, including underground parking. Perhaps the most remarkable element of the building is the roof, which features enormous chimneys designed to look like medieval knights. The architect’s elaborate plans for the roof included adding a huge statue of the Virgin, but when the businessman who commissioned the building said no, Gaudí resigned from the project. Today, the roof is frequently the site of music performances. Check online for an accurate schedule of special events and available tours. • First up on the roof. The majority of people take the elevator, which creates a fairly long tail, but you can also go up by the stairs (8th floor). The terrace and the view of the city and the Sagrada are superb. We then visit the "attic" built like a spinal column, which contains an exhibition on the work of Gaudí. Finally we visit a typical bourgeois apartment of the early twentieth, which is really beautiful. (Tour during the day).

  • Represents one of the major works of Gaudi, from which you can appreciate his genius. The visit with audioguide, included in the ticket price, offers insight into the criteria of the time they have given the architect to design a building so unique and at the same time so fascinating. The price is a bit high, albeit in the average of the other monuments. The visit, however, is definitely recommended.

  • Modernist style house is similar in some ways to casa batllo, this also is furnished in style ' 900 and from the terrace you have a good view of the city. Audioguide available in Italian.

  • Really nice decor and atmosphere, together with an amazing modernist ceiling. BUT the waiter somehow managed to confuse the tea I ordered for a too-sweet juice that was twice the price. The cafe was almost empty when we were here, so it's not like they were swamped with work either.
  • Although the cafe is nice comfortable and clean,I will never recommend or go there again. The waiter was not friendly at all.Somehow unpoliet. For me the behaviour of serviceman and owner of bar ,restarand , cafe is really important.
  • The place is located inside of La pedrera and it has a Gaudi decor. The restaurant staff is correct and the service goes along the live music show. We enjoyed the tapas we've tried but I would not consider this a dinner menu. All the things were tasty, specially the cutlet kebab.
  • The worst crema catalana ever tasted
  • With friends I enjoyed an amazing last evening hangout at El Café de la Pedrera. Located outside GAUDI'S beautiful Casa Mila, La Pedrera. I highly recommend Juvé e Camps Milesimé, Cava €32...light, clean & crips! The service is excellent and the waiter's knowledge of local food & drink was just brilliant! It kind of reminded me a little of Knights Bridge. We all just loved it! Can't wait to come back again soon! 😊

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
