I discovered this place a little by chance. I actually wanted to see the building of closer and I saw what looked like archaeological excavations, I entered. Find a space of a well laid out Roman city is moving: streets, homes, wells, channel, shops everything is there.

  • Stumbled upon this while we were on vacation without really knowing what we were walking into and it was one of our favorite parts of the entire trip. Make sure to walk around the entire site and read all of the different descriptions of what was happening a few hundred years ago. Very eye-opening and made me learn a lot more about Barcelona as well as the Catalan people. Highly recommended!
  • On a scale of don't eat here to I enjoyed my meal, don't eat here. Fourth time visiting Barcelona, and hands down the least pleasing location that I unfortunately had the experience of eating at. Portions were small, especially for the price, and the service was below par. My grandmother and parents agree. Just saying, there are a thousand other spots I am sure you will enjoy more.
  • Very cool archeological site. You can enter the building for free and walk around the upper level where you can see all of the ruins and lots of information about the site and Barcelona in general. To get into the exhibits or down into the ruins you need a ticket, but if you're looking for something free, this is it. There are bathrooms, a shop, and resturant here as well.
  • Ruins of a former market, nicely displayed. Overall great hisyory on signs all over the display.
  • A wonderful history of a tiny but important part in the story of the city. Even someone not that interested in archaeology and old ruins can't help but be fascinated but the depth of research which has led to identifying the people who lived in some of the houses that were discovered and the businesses that were carried on there.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
