Casa Mila - La Pedrera, Barcelona

World heritage site · Architectural Building · Landmark
To see one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s most controversial designs, visit Casa Mila - La Pedrera, known for its undulating stone facade and the wrought-iron decorations on its balconies and windows. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, the building features some of the most innovative elements of its time, including underground parking. Perhaps the most remarkable element of the building is the roof, which features enormous chimneys designed to look like medieval knights. The architect’s elaborate plans for the roof included adding a huge statue of the Virgin, but when the businessman who commissioned the building said no, Gaudí resigned from the project. Today, the roof is frequently the site of music performances. Check online for an accurate schedule of special events and available tours. • The building was nice and even though i did not get a chance to go up, it was well placed to give gorgeous sunset views. On top of that the building was very impressive and displayed gothic...  more »
  • Unless you are a big architecture fan, I think it’s a little too expensive to see a early 20th century dwellment... :-) There are interesting fixtures and designs of course.  more »

  • Very beautiful architectural piece, a must visit while in Barcelona! It is wheelchair friendly (and the person accompanying the person in the wheelchair enters for free), however be aware that there is only a very small platform on the terrace (the most beautiful part of the visit in my opinion) that can be accessed in a wheelchair - everything else is just stairs. Still totally recommend checking it out because it is unique.
  • The location does require a entrance fee of 25 euros for an adult, however if you love architecture, it is completely worth the price! The design of the rooftop, to the attic, and to the apartments is impressive. There was a lot of thought and influences of nature that shine through the construction. One of the aspects that I enjoyed the most were the door handles that were designed. They not only looked awesome, it had a very specific design intent for looks and ergonomics. There are also many differently spots for great pictures and for anyone to practice taking pictures.
  • I did experiment the night tour and it was absolutely charming. The house wasn’t packed of people, the evening lights made it even more beautiful, the guide was fun. Few cons though considering the price : - No visit of any apartment. - The rooftop lights show was poor and boring. Still a great experience, but could be improved.
  • A must see in Barcelona. And a UNESCO World Heritage site. The chimneys on the rooftop are like warriors from the Middle Age. The views of the City are exceptional. My practical recommendation: take the elevators to the roof top and walk your way down. Allow enough time to see the whale attic and a sample apartment with period furnishings. The attic has a set of clever displays documenting how Gaudi's rich inspiration came from Nature.
  • Great experience, especially the immersive audio guide. The audio guide plays automatically based on your location and you don’t need to worry about pressing the right number or looking at the audio guide screen. It also has background sound effect to enhance your experience. It allows the visitors to fully experience the architecture. Highly recommended
