Casa Mila - La Pedrera, Barcelona

4.4
#2 of 109 in Museums in Barcelona
To see one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s most controversial designs, visit Casa Mila - La Pedrera, known for its undulating stone facade and the wrought-iron decorations on its balconies and windows. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1984, the building features some of the most innovative elements of its time, including underground parking. Perhaps the most remarkable element of the building is the roof, which features enormous chimneys designed to look like medieval knights. The architect’s elaborate plans for the roof included adding a huge statue of the Virgin, but when the businessman who commissioned the building said no, Gaudí resigned from the project. Today, the roof is frequently the site of music performances. Check online for an accurate schedule of special events and available tours. • Wish I lived here. A great way to explore Gaudi architecture and see his genius and how is was ahead of his time.  more »

  • Apart from the impressive Palace worthy of the author's imagination, but placed in an elegant, distinctive and very chic. High class stores the frame that make the beautiful scenery and charming. To see

  • Beautiful building. Glad we toured the inside. It’s extremely unique and well done. You won’t see this anywhere else. The rooftop is stunning with so many curves. Everything flows so naturally. It’s hard to describe in words but this place can definitely evoke feelings! Goes without saying that it was packed with tourists - kind of takes away from the beauty a little.
  • Great visit! The attic was very well done, with lots of interesting information about design and architecture. The roof is beautiful. The audio guide was a nice touch in the attic and in the apartment, but the descriptions on the roof weren’t too informative, and you’d be better off just enjoying the beauty around you :)
  • Bought no wait tickets which were worth it because we took an elevator right to the roof. The roof is so amazing. The views are fantastic. you can see Sagrada Familia and it's framed by one of the arches. Then the attic was amazing. There were models of other buildings and some furniture. Then we got to see the apartment which was also furnished. The downside was the free pictures we're not really free as you had to pay to get a print.
  • Amazing architecture. Enjoyed our visit. Attic space is amazing. Entrance fee is pricey, but it was worth it for us.
  • Fantastic place. We booked a Jazz concert on the roof top terrace, dinner and the sound and light show The Origins. Highly recommend!
