#4 of 118 in Shopping in Barcelona
A contemporary museum and cultural arts center, CaixaForum Barcelona presents an array of exhibits on ancient, modern, and contemporary art inside a formerly abandoned electrical station encased in oxidized cast iron. The permanent exhibit here explains the history and refurbishment of the museum, while the rotating exhibits--usually consisting of avant-garde and contemporary art--display painting, photography, video installations, and interactive works. • Formerly completely free, this place is not less interesting now that it has become paying. The only difference is that instead of wants an exhibition the other we choose them. Discovery so less. The roof offers a nice view on the building.

  • Exhibition in the line of major exhibitions annually programming Caixaforum. Essential to know the work of key artists of 20th century painting

  • This cultural precinct is located in a former textile factory "House Ramona" work of the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Throughout the year there are exhibitions of ancient, modern and contemporary art, cinema, concerts, debates and conferences, performing arts, cycles of literature and educational shows. It also has an excellent coffee shop to share with friends and unwind. Offers guided tours at very reasonable prices to meet the building and various exhibitions. Do not miss it if you visit Barcelona.

  • Great museum just like all La Caixa Foruns around Spain. Wonderful modernist building, small but well curated book and gift store and always great exhibits. Just make sure to check schedules if you want to check out a particular exhibit They also have a nice terrace and a nice cafe place with outside seating if you get tired
  • When I visited the Forum, the museum offered two incredibly well curated shows on DeChirico and Warhol. just for 4 euros. Greedy US museums, listen up! Plus, the building holds architectural interest with an art moderne rooftop, there's a cafe and free wifi. Well done!
  • Archtecturally interesting building with various temporary art exhibitions. Worth a look!
  • Went there for the exhibition of De Chirico.. enjoyed it! unluckily some other salas were closed.. the rooftop was very nice!
  • An impressive modernist building houses interesting exhibitions covering art, culture, society and history. The electronic concerts each month are well worth a look.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
