The undisputed symbol of the city, Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a World Heritage Site that astonishes visitors with its sheer height and intricacy of design. This impressive church was designed by one of Spain’s renowned architects, Antoni Gaudí. Though Gaudí produced some of the country’s most inspiring buildings, this church is his most famous work. This masterpiece in the very heart of the city, featuring Gothic and Art Nouveau elements, is 95 m (312 ft) long and 60 m (197 ft) wide, with a seating capacity of 13,000. The central tower rises 170 m (558 ft) above the transept, with 17 other towers of 100 m (328 ft) or more. Visitors have access to the nave, crypt, museum, shop, and two towers. • Beautiful, stunning, jaw dropping awesomeness. A true living breathing work off art. Still under completion. One of those things when you can't get around the thoughts of how this magnificent structur...  more »
  • Coming attractions, remember to make an appointment. When we go, canceled the Summit, with regret, only to come again. See lots of photos before, but to go there in person, standing in the center of the Hall, the kind of Visual impact is great. In order to avoid too long, remember that early

  • It was an awesome experience. The sculptures on the facades were clearly marked making it very interesting to spot C understand their significance. We entered the cathedral around 5pm and were blown away with the sun shining through the stained glasses. The ceiling and columns were extraordinary. Gaudi's inclination for geometry in nature was clearly shown with the various elements in the museum. The AV on the construction history of the cathedral was very informative and moving. Well worth and absolutely not to miss!!
  • Five stars for the unusual design concept of the church. 0 stars for the crowd. It was a pleasant, overwhelming experience to savor the artistic design of the exterior. The interior was more revealing in terms of magnificent use of form and light. The stained glass evokes goose bumps when the sun rays hits the colored panes. The ceiling is out of this world to experience. Words are not adequate to describe the grandeur of the place. It has to be experienced in person---ideally sans the crowd. Only if it is at all possible. Too bad the church was built on a confined space, surrounded by apartments...Overall, a memorable experience to remember Barcelona, Spain. Spaniards should be very proud of this art treasure. My respect to Gaudi and all the master craftsman for going at it all these years and more.
  • Go at sunset....or sunrise....it's like jumping into a kaleidoscope!!! Too many people being disrespectful, talking loud, pushing, people forget this is a sanctuary.... such a spectacular space. Jaw dropping indeed. The audio commentary was a major let down. There are signs posted that duplicate the audio. The ear buds were nice to drown out the noise. Have patience and visit!
  • First things first. Make sure you make early reservations and I would highly recommend getting reservations for both first time of day and second have the day and spending entire day looking at the marvels of world architecture and wondering about Genius of the architect. This is the only church in the world that makes me feel incredible and makes me smile every time I see it. I highly recommend watching some documentaries doing your research to learn as much as possible about this place before you go in. It will make your visit so much more special.
  • Ensure you reserve early enough for the day and time you will be visiting! This beauty has changed dramatically over the last 10 years! The inside is breathtaking as is the exterior! The modern work is apparent by its unique colors! A must visit if you are in Barcelona

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
