Barri de Gracia, Barcelona

4.7
#6 of 12 in Neighborhoods in Barcelona
Walk around one of Barcelona’s hippest and most vibrant neighborhoods, Barri de Gracia. Relax in the Plaça de Sol, a lively square lined with places to eat, bars, and 19th-century architecture. Relish the small bohemian village atmosphere of the area, which was separate from the city until 1897. Gràcia’s mix of trendy boutiques and traditional Spanish stores make it an ideal place to pick up a souvenir. Be sure to visit its most famous attraction, Parc Güell, a park designed by famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. • every year I go to the feast of grace I like to see how they decorate the streets the festive atmosphere of the people in the neighborhood and the residents work is wonderful.

  • located further north of the tourist areas, the Gracia area is very nice and above all very nice (especially the C. Gran Garcia with its splendid buildings). Many streets are reduced traffic, some are only pedestrian. Many small shops, coffee and placed of the Virreina is good for a shady break. Go until a horde of tourists invade this creative district, and take the time to admire the facades and the atmosphere.

  • Very much alive. International but little tourism. Alternative and creative. Take advantage of my fiesta mayor Gracia mid-August where the neighborhood turns!

Where to stay in Barcelona

Because the city's metro system makes traveling from area to area relatively painless, you have more flexibility in choosing a place to stay. Barceloneta, the neighborhood surrounding the city beach is somewhat removed from the city center, making its hotels popular with families. Only a 15-minute walk from the center, Barceloneta has a more laid-back beach atmosphere but still offers several restaurants and entertainment options. Farther away from the beach and closer to the city center, El Born is a charming neighborhood well-known for its restaurants and lively bar scene. Eixample is also popular as it is more central and home to some of the city's best shopping and tourist sites, including La Sagrada Familia. For a more traditional experience, consider staying in the Gothic Quarter, the heart of Old Barcelona. This picturesque neighborhood boasts a tight network of historical architecture with boutique hotels and traditional restaurants.
