  • With the Montejurra in the background, this Cistercian Monastery draws up the high walls of his enclosure, the perfect quadrilateral of its cloister and elevations of its Romanesque church, which flanks it on his left surmounted by a high and imposing Bell Tower, in a landscape of vineyards and wheat fields. We find traces of this monastery from 958. The Church was altered importance at the end of the 12th-beginning of the 13th century, on the ruins of a previous building from the Visigothic era, so prior to the monastery itself. Inside: Romanesque apse, extended a nave of roman-gothic transitional style which is distinguished by the primitive style of his cross; cupola on squinches of the Renaissance; small statuary, including the notable Santa Maria la Real of the 12th century, covered with money; a Holy unknown us, San Veremundo (or Bermudo), Benedictine monk who was Abbot of the monastery of Irache in 1052 to 1092, where he died in 1099 (the church retains a plateresque reliquary as well as the tomb of the holy man); a St. Christopher in the Greco-Roman paces; at the crossroads of the transept, figures monumental of the four evangelists. Be sure to observe the vaults decorated with arabesques in stucco and punctuated with key appear before go you to the Gothic cloister of the 16th century (1540-1586) where you will notice the many sculptures, c.ls - of-lamp and capitals imaging the lives of Christ and St. Benedict. Ranked well of Cultural interest of Navarre since May 12, 1877.

  • We were at the wineries and we went to see him, okay, a bit soulless but if you are in the area is worth entering.
