The Four Posts, Avila
(4.2/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Erected in 1556 just outside Avila, The Four Posts is a curious-looking shrine with a cross erected in the center. It marks the spot where seven-year-old Saint Teresa tried to run away to seek martyrdom in battle with the Moors. Her uncle, Francisco, stopped her and made her return to the city. The monument is set in a private field with no parking lots nearby, so you will have to walk there. You will also be rewarded with a great view of the city and its medieval walls. • After visiting the fortified walls of Avila, our tour group stopped here. The steps to the top of "The Four Posts" are a bit steep. From the spot at the top, we could see the walls of Avila, the tower...  more »
  • This is a wonderful place, which offers a magnificent view of the city and its fortress walls. Plan to come to this place at that time, when the Sun starts to hide behind the horizon and include backlighting. Can compare Four Posts looks like in daylight and with lighting. Guarantee the best photo surroundings! We traveled by car, but saw that there stopped city buses, they say, you can even walk. Don't be lazy! Visiting Avila, it is impossible not to visit the Four Posts!
