  • Must-see if you are in Ávila, the input costs €4 with included audio and is worthy of see, walk its halls and imagine as the Catholic monarchs passed through this one of their summer residences. Very highly recommended.

  • Being the only relevance monument located outside the historic centre of Ávila, the monastery of Santo Tomás tends to be set aside by many guided tours or quick trips to Ávila. It is not so far away: 15 minutes walk from the Centre, but there are slopes in the first leg and back, and if you stay in the historic area, you have a much more convenient option: let your visit to the arrival or the departure of the city, before going to the hotel or after leaving it. To be in an area away from the walled enclosure, it has easy parking for the hour and a half that can last the visit, whose entrance is cheap (4 euros) and includes audioguide. Strictly speaking the monastery is not anything spectacular, but pleasant and curious to see. The Church is noteworthy (containing the tomb of Prince John, the only son of the Catholic monarchs, died at the age of 19), although it should be noted that it trades, held so it is convenient to avoid the hours of the masses. The monastery has three cloisters austere but totally different, and houses two museums: the natural sciences is composed of two rooms with stuffed animals of all kinds that were used in kinds of natural sciences at the monastery, since a brown bear a lion passing by a crocodile or multitude of birds. The other, much more interesting and broad, is the oriental Museum, containing objects that the Dominican friars (which are those who have always occupied the monastery) brought their work as missionaries in Japan, China and Viet Nam in the 19th and 20th centuries, above all. He is not objects of great economic value (no gold or precious stones, to be clear) but aesthetic and historical. It includes everything from musical instruments to opium pipes, passing through figures jade or porcelain, samples of oriental calligraphy, mock-ups of typical houses of the area, etc. Full of curiosities, such as for example the porcelain plates depicting scenes from the life of Jesus with the Virgin, St. Joseph and Christ himself with features patterned and dresses Orientals, so were the inhabitants of the area less strange or distant (imagine). In short, a good place to relax during an hour or two of relaxed visit that also does not have the crowds of other most famous monuments.

  • It is a pleasant surprise to visit this hidden, unknown and beautiful monastery. Completely different from other monuments that have been seen in the city. Three beautiful cloisters (my second favorite), its two museums on the inside (natural sciences and far East)...

  • Very good reception. Unbeatable personal service. Facilities, well, but could be improved.

  • Avila is a monumental city, which has its time of splendor in the 15th and 16th centuries. The monastery of Santo Tomás, also residendia of summer of the Catholic monarchs, is one of these jewels. Three impressive cloisters, the largest and beautiful is that of the Catholic monarchs. and that shows a bit of neglect in maintenance and many wetlands. Remarkable altarpiece by Berruguete. Impressive church with a chorus that cannot be seen. As added a small Science Museum (rather a collection of taxidermy, with animals of unkempt appearance). Another gift from this visit is the Museum of Oriental art, with gloomy lighting. Most of the pieces it contains are oriental art, many of them religious of the 19th and 20th centuries. This artistic treasure suffered the plundering of the French and the plundering of the confiscation of Mendizabal, which gives an idea of the treasures that might have in years past. Unpleasant attention from the staff of the site, which contrasts with the friendliness of the Dominicans PP receiving the parishioners at the entrance of the mass. In conclusion: must see when visiting Ávila (entry €4), which requires at least three hours to be routed with confidence (there is audiguia to continue the visit).

  • It is one of the must-see of Avila despite being very retired from the wall. Highlight the three cloisters, the choir and the Museum of oriental art
