Basilica de San Vicente, Avila

(4.5/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Just outside the walls of Avila, Basilica de San Vicente is a 12th-century Romanesque church with notable Gothic architecture. The basilica sits on the site where three Christian martyrs were killed after their refusal to worship pagan gods. Don’t miss the intricate cloisters along the side of the church and the altar. The stones used in the interior are eye-catching, marked with a red coloration that comes from iron. Be sure to see the tomb of Saint Vincent, which is sculpted to depict the story of his torture and execution. • It is very nice on the outside, but its interior has always seemed impressive. A pity that his side are slightly degraded

  • It calls attention to its architectural design, it is very beautiful. We could not visit the inside because it was closed. Check the days and opening hours.

  • Very convenient Church for Sunday mass. Right outside the wall and next to the information center. Very peaceful experience.
  • Unique and beautiful piece of Castilian Romanesque church. Don't forget to visit the interior. You will be delighted by the shades of yellow and red of the stones and the cleanness of the stone arches and vaults. The transept crossing is a jewel in it's simplicity.
  • Would like to go again in flesh
  • Fantastic. The Cenotaph is a Romanesque European art jewellery. €2.30 with audioguide included.

  • It is nice, we could also go free, if you are going to have few days may fit you, if you want only one day would have to evaluate it.
