  • This well-known hiking route runs parallel to the course of the River Cares along 12 Km between the towns of Poncebos (Asturias) and Valdeón Caín (Leon). I did not do the hiking route in full but that I visited its initial route by car (to which can be accessed with this). Without any doubt not will be comparable feeling regarding the hiking route or you can enjoy with the same intensity of landscapes; the reason for my short visit, drive, but it did not have time to make it walk (must take into account that they would be at least 6 hours between roundtrip) and to be in the area and find me one day as wonderful as it came out despite being the month of January (sunny, not a cloud and no trace of fog) not could miss the occasion. On my visit I was or had opportunity to be, or see, sites such as:-bridge Poncebos: at the beginning of the route; nearby there is a parking area. In that area the River Cares with some very nice views of this winds and there is a tunnel dug in the rock through which passes the road. There is a power station and a hotel restaurant. -Funicular de Bulnes: a little later (in regard to Cain) of the previous bridge, 1 km more or less. At the funicular station there is a small parking area. Was opened in 2001 and was a work of engineering spectacular as its tour runs entirely (2.2 Km) by a tunnel through the rock. Takes about 7 minutes and saves a drop of 400 meters. Until its opening the only form of access to Bulnes was to foot and transporting the merchandise with mules. The price of the trip of roundtrip is €22. -Texu channel: is the path through which runs the natural route between Poncebos and Bulnes (there is no road). They are about 4 Km through this Gorge's steep and beautiful landscapes. -Camarmeña viewpoint: access to the through a narrow road with impressive slope and and tremendous Horseshoe curves. Worth the penalty it rise as from this viewpoint is from where is obtained them best views of the Naranjo of Bulnes (or peak Urriellu) being able observe the absolute verticality of his face West. Since the views are very beautiful, not only of the orange but also of the area; and to regain strength in the same viewpoint is the Bar La Fuentina (only open in high season) that offers interesting things. -MY IMPRESSION: Although the route of Cares is make her walk (hope to do so soon) If this tour is not available time drive by the beginning of the route, the areas that I have indicated, allows to take an idea and enjoy in a short time of wonderful landscapes; If in addition a day so fantastic and clear (key to see the Naranjo de Bulnes) as when I was then the view is lovely. Everything described is beautiful but the sight of Orange from the viewpoint of Camarmeña on a clear day, as it was the case, is priceless. It seems to me a recommended excursion.

  • Route very advisable, it started in Cain and turned the AC. 12 km until the end, the time of eating a sandwich and of return another time. It takes almost 3 h (5.5-6 h in total). The route follows the River, the initial part is in my opinion the most beautiful (for landscape and path), but it's gratifying to get to the end. Along the way you meet goats unaccustomed to the passage of people. It can be perfectly with children (not too small, since there is no guard rails) and dogs. No special preparation is necessary, but good hiking boots are recommended.

  • Wearing time with desire of do it and not me has disappointed nothing. My partner and I made it from poncebos (roundtrip) and if that initially there is a stretch of approximately 2km uphill that you are not accustomed to the mountain can be hard. Still and everything is spectacular from start to finish. Recommendations: bring plenty of water, food and good shoes.

  • Great walk through tunnels and along paths carved out of the steep sided gorge
  • Very beautiful hike if you are not scared from heights, to bad it doesn't have a round trip, so if you go you need to walk back the same way..
  • Impressive route. It is worth to do it for free without paying roundtrip firms. It is not so heavy. But to do it early. (07.00)

  • I recommend starting from Poncebos Cain. The beginning is uphill. When some 3 kilometres pass becomes plain almost until the end. They are about 12 km on the Cares Gorge. Very nice route and easy. On arrival at Cain, there are buses that take you back to Cain during the summer season. You can also hire taxis or 4 x 4 reservation required routes.
