Castillo de Loarre, Aragon

(360+ reviews on the web)
Castle Tourist Spot
Described by UNESCO as "undoubtably the best castle in all of Aragon," Castillo de Loarre held a strategic position on the frontier between Christian and Muslim lands. Built largely during the 11th and 12th centuries, the castle is very well-preserved, and underwent major restorations in the 20th century. Explore its large walls, numerous towers, and enclosed Church of San Pedro. Of its three towers, the "Tower of the Queen" is particularly noteworthy for its set of twin-arched windows, which have been attributed to Lombard and Mozarabic architectural forms. Film buffs might recognize the castle from its appearance in the 2005 epic "Kingdom of Heaven." Make Castillo de Loarre a part of your Yeste vacation plans using our Yeste vacation route planner.

  • If you love castles, you got to see this one. It is very picturesque sitting on top of the rock against the skyline. Great to walk all about inside and out, especially with the audioguide.  more »

  • un castillo bonissima.
  • A castle of importance, and more recently, a castle of film stardom (Kingdom of Heaven). The visitor centre/ticket office is well designed too, as it looks to be 'underground'.
  • Amazing place, great view of the valley and an incredibly beautiful romanic church. The castle is fantastic
  • Unique location...amazing Castle nearby Huesca.
