Castillo de Loarre, Aragon

(4.7/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Described by UNESCO as "undoubtably the best castle in all of Aragon," Castillo de Loarre held a strategic position on the frontier between Christian and Muslim lands. Built largely during the 11th and 12th centuries, the castle is very well-preserved, and underwent major restorations in the 20th century. Explore its large walls, numerous towers, and enclosed Church of San Pedro. Of its three towers, the "Tower of the Queen" is particularly noteworthy for its set of twin-arched windows, which have been attributed to Lombard and Mozarabic architectural forms. Film buffs might recognize the castle from its appearance in the 2005 epic "Kingdom of Heaven." Make Castillo de Loarre a part of your Yeste vacation plans using our Yeste vacation route planner.

  • Incredible experience! It has everything: nature, history and art. The Castle from the 11th century best preserved in Europe. No wonder that they have chosen him to shoot films related to the middle ages

  • Must visit, if you like castles. It is unique in its location (on a penalty) and its state of conservation, thousand years standing and is very well, and without excessive reconstructions which distort its nature. While you are performing the guided visit (which I recommend) you get to imagine was the life of the Castle at the time. Mention the Guide - Raquel-that made us visit very enjoyable and instructive, noticed that she knew of that spoke and who also likes.

  • Rising from the village of Loarre, it seems hidden in the penalty. Very well preserves some rooms, as the monastery which is almost the first unit that is visited. Interesting travel and breathtaking view from afar.

  • un castillo bonissima.
  • A castle of importance, and more recently, a castle of film stardom (Kingdom of Heaven). The visitor centre/ticket office is well designed too, as it looks to be 'underground'.
  • Amazing place, great view of the valley and an incredibly beautiful romanic church. The castle is fantastic
  • Unique location...amazing Castle nearby Huesca.
  • really cool how do you know all of this like how do you keep track of all of this
