Virgin of El Rocio, Almonte

Virgin of El Rocio, an hermitage with yearly pilgrimages of about a million people, originally dates back to the early 17th century. Subsequent rebuilds have given the buildings both religious and architectural interest. Check out the venerated wooden statue of Mary, called the Virgin of El Rocío. The town itself has a frontier feel. Spend some time eating in the tapas bars or window shopping, or just indulge in some people watching. • The Virgin of the Rocío... moves much devotion, crowd, is in the midst of the National Park of Doñana, surrounded by vegetation, horses, flamingos, sand. It has its pilgrimage at Pentecost and every 7 years moved to Almonte, where it is venerated for 9 months
