Matalascanas, Almonte

3.1
#5 of 19 in Parks in Province of Huelva
Surrounded by Doñana National Park, Matalascanas is a beach famous for the upside-down tower protruding from the water just off the beach. The tower, called Torre la Higuera, was built for defense by Phillip II in the 16th century. The beach is usually quiet, so it makes a great destination for families and those looking for an escape. While the sand is dark and the water not very clear, it's still a great place for sunbathing and swimming. • If you are looking for an oasis of tranquillity and relaxation here can get it especially in winter, since it is more a residential beach, where the overcrowding in summer is patent. With its extensive shore and due to the low turnout of people in winter makes it ideal for a day of food in some of the restaurants that stay open year-round; then coffee and take the Sun on the shore, or of family picnic

  • An incredible beach. There isn't much more to say. We went in January and had temporary, which enhances its beauty. The surrounding area is neglected because of the nature, but worth a go.

  • Lovely sandy beach with a strange plug-shaped rock just offshore, but scruffy apartment building on the seafront ruined the ambience for us.  more »

  • As beach is one of the best for summer, quiet, little wind, a wide coastline and water with good temperature. The negative point may be its infrastructure and little parking in summer

  • Spectacular sandy beach of fine sand, with water, beach bars, seafront attractions Cleaned daily in the evening but there are those who insist on leaving their trash on the beach.

  • The beaches are clean. Most of the entrances have showers service. Not all entrances are accessible for those travelling in a wheelchair. Parking, especially on weekends during the summer months, is complicated.

  • Beach of fine, white sand waves just for fun taking a bath. Average occupancy, no crowded, and good sites nearby to eat. Best if you can walk. A luxury site
