  • It is worth climbing this huge slope up to the mosque. It is small but with great charm. There are amazing views from there. And next to the Bullring.

  • -Old mosque, later converted into a church (Chapel of the conception) from century XIII. It is possibly the only mosque in Spain, in rural, which is preserved intact. -It is the main monument of Almonaster la Real and one of the most important in the Sierra de Aracena. Historical-artistic monument is considered since 1931. -Its origin, as mosque, is between the IX-X, in the time of Abderraman III, during the Caliphate of Córdoba. Originally it had a courtyard for ablutions, the original bottom of the Hall of prayers with five ships, where was the mihrab and a minaret, current belfry, which only preserves. It has subsequently undergone architectural modifications and some elements have added it as the mudejar apse. Also is found in it some remains of others times so currently is can see elements Roman and Visigoths (on which was built) in addition to Arab and Christian. -A curiosity is that its plant is of form v, by imperative of the land where is sits. -Is situated at the top of a hill where the remains of a Moorish Castle and Bullring are also. Since its location is referred to, at his feet, the pretty village of Almonaster la Real and a wide panoramic view of the Sierra de Aracena. -Address: Cerro del Castillo s/n and their GPS coordinates: N 37.870872 and W 6.786913. Access can be made in car almost up to her. I I went to foot; so I left the car in the Plaza of the city from where the distance is very short (150-200 m) but that if you have to climb a very strong slope. -As regards the timetable, the enclosure remains open daily from 9 to 20.30 hours. -In regard to the price say that it is free. -MY IMPRESSION: monument of remarkable historical value. It sits atop a hill with magnificent views over the village of Almonaster and the Sierra de Aracena. The visit is for free, is made without guides, no schedules, and is free. I recommend to people with difficulties to walk or make significant efforts they come near to her drive as much as possible as the final slope is tough. Apart from its historical significance I especially liked its location (and the views of its surroundings) and the courtyard of prayers, with columns, very beautiful and well preserved. It seems to me a very interesting visit.

  • Wonderful mystical place!
  • Beautiful architectural example of our blend of cultures in the middle ages: mosque built during the Caliphate of Córdoba from the 10th century, converted into a chapel after the Christian Reconquest. Visit obliged.
